The French Immersion program is designed to develop students' proficiency in French. Students will have the opportunity to take French Language Arts, Études Sociales, Mathématiques and Sciences. The goal of the French Immersion program at SACHS is to obtain a minimum of 40 credits in courses taught in French over three years. This will allow students to earn a SACHS Bilingual Certificate. Students who earn 60 credits in courses taught in French, including 15 credits in French Language Arts, will be awarded a SACHS Bilingual Certificate with distinction. It is recommended that students take at least one course in French each semester.
Students are able to learn the Alberta curriculum while developing their language skills.
FRENCH LANGUAGE ARTS 10-1, 20-1, 30-1
These courses are designed for French Immersion students. Their goal is to continue developing oral and written French language skills. Students develop vocabulary, grammar, and language structure skills while gaining an appreciation for classic and contemporary literature from Canada and the World.
ÉTUDES SOCIALES 10-1, 20-1, 30-1
These courses follow the provincial Social Studies curriculum and are taught in French. They focus on relevant Canadian issues, such as globalization, nationalism, and ideology, and enhance language comprehension in both oral and written French.
MATHÉMATIQUES 10C, 20-1, 20-2, 30-1, 30-2
These courses follow the provincial Mathematics curriculum and are taught in French. Thus, students can learn the Alberta curriculum while developing their language skills.
SCIENCES 10, BIOLOGIE 20 / 30, CHIMIE 20 / 30, PHYSIQUES 20 / 30
These courses directly follow the provincial Science curriculum and are taught in French.
