AP - Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) enables willing and academically prepared students to pursue college-level studies — with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement or both — while still in high school. AP Exams are given each year in May. A score of 4 or higher on an AP Exam can typically earn students college credit and/or placement into advanced courses in college.

The Advanced Placement (AP) program is designed to provide motivated high school students with post-secondary-level academic courses in a comfortable high school environment.

Students gain the skills needed to succeed in a post-secondary environment through participating in this enrichment program. In addition, based on performance on AP exams, students can earn credit for post-secondary courses before entering the institution. It is recommended that students in grade 9 who are achieving above 80% in their core courses enroll in AP classes for grade 10 and experience what AP is and how it may benefit them in the future.

What AP courses are offered at SACHS

École Secondaire St. Albert Catholic High School offers the following AP course areas

3D AP Art,

AP Drawing

Computer Science Principles AP

Students can take AP classes in the traditional setting and access the AP modules off-schedule during our Hawk Block. These modules are all taught in English and will be facilitated by teachers trained in AP delivery.

What are the advantages of taking AP courses?

Taking AP courses comes with multiple benefits, including:

  • Chance to earn post-secondary credit.
  • Preparation for post-secondary workloads.
  • Flexibility to take classes only in areas students excel in.
  • Increased interest in and knowledge of a given subject.
  • Students can also opt to take AP courses at a different high school if they are not offered at their school.
  • Colleges like to look at a high school student’s most challenging courses when considering their transcripts. With AP courses on their transcript, students can stand out as candidates.

If AP interests you, and you would like to speak with someone regarding whether it would be the right choice, please let us know, and we will set you up with a grade coordinator to discuss your options.
