Flexible Programs

Elite Performance Center and Flexible Timetabling

This program's number one goal is to advocate for student-athletes who are pursuing their passions. We will support your son or daughter's dreams and ensure their education is barrier-free.
The vision of the Elite Performance Centre
● Flexible hybrid programming, which offers excellent academic programming
tailored to the needs of each student. This ultimately provides students with the ability to control their own learning.
● Extracurricular passions: such as athletics, arts, music, or an apprenticeship program.
● This program is for all students who require some sort of flexibility within their timetables. “We want to support our students in following their dreams, walking alongside them, and building an adaptive timetable that will include both their education and passion to thrive.”
● The flexible programming will be individualized for each student and may include a combination of in-class learning, online learning, and self-learning modules. Students may also complete courses in a shorter or longer time frame, depending on scheduling.
● Spares will be worked into the schedules of students to access AHP trainers.

RISE Program

The Respectful Inclusive Supported Education (RISE) program is a specialized inclusive program designed for school-aged students who require targeted and/or individualized supports to meet their personalized educational goals.

The identified learning needs of the students may be addressed by a varied, flexible placement in multiple classrooms, a single classroom, and/or in the community.

RISE Eligibility

The RISE program is designed for students requiring targeted and modified* educational programming. Students participating in modified programs work towards achieving personalized learning outcomes that are significantly different from the provincial curriculum (Standards for Special Education, 2004).

Students enrolled in RISE have physical, cognitive, and/or diagnosed learning exceptionalities that interfere with their abilities to acquire age-appropriate academic, communication, and/or social skills. The RISE program presents students with the opportunity to grow in areas of academic achievement and in daily living skills. Students will participate in school-based events and activities and will receive a Certificate of Completion from Alberta Education in lieu of a high school diploma.

*Modified: As per the Standard for Special Education 2004. "Modified programming means programming in which the learning outcomes are significantly different from the provincial curriculum and are specifically selected to meet students’ special education needs."

Students registered in this program have access to a designated teacher who is responsible for structuring an academic plan that includes individual and small group instruction as well as inclusive educational experiences for each student. A strong focus is placed on developing skills for participating in current school environments as well as abilities necessary for social, recreational, and work opportunities in the future.

Alternative Education

Your choice for online, in-person or a mix!

St. Gabriel Education Centre provides alternative educational opportunities and programs to youth, adults, and children within the Greater St. Albert Schools community and within the province of Alberta.

The student-centered programs are highlighted by the outreach junior and senior high school programs for students (grades 7-12) in need of an alternative delivery model. As society evolves, so must our education system adapt to change.

New for the 2022/23 school year - St. Gabes will now be offering French Immersion for grade 10 students from anywhere within the province. For more information on our program please visit - St. Gabriel Education Centre
